“Bombeta,” a Catalan term meaning “small bulb,” revisits a subject present since the beginning of Falcó’s artistic path. The artist has explained that the first painting painted at the end of the 1970s, in a modest pension in Madrid, depicted precisely the room’s light bulb as seen from the bed. Brought to Manresa, his hometown, the painting was sold immediately, encouraging him to continue painting. In 1979 he also exhibited a work entitled “La bombeta” at Sala Xipell in Manresa.

The work presented here, realized in 1992, readdresses that subject with extraordinary Pop energy. The large white light bulb emerges powerfully from an explosion of red, yellow, orange, violet and black, transforming a quotidian object into an image that is immediate, powerful, and perfectly recognizable. It is precisely this transformation of common objects into icons of great visual strength that constitutes one of the fundamental creative concepts of Falcó’s painting.

Oil and acrylic are applied in a dense, gestural manner, with splashes, drips and reliefs that give great movement to the surface. In Falcó’s painting, color, gesture and matter fuse into a composition of strong visual and emotional intensity.

Signed and dated on the front, the work bears the artist’s signature, title “Bombeta” and the year on the back, written directly on the canvas: important elements for precise identification and documentation.
