Mosasaur - Fossil tooth - 9 cm

Mosasaur teeth from Morocco with root and part of the mandible bone, bone partially restored, the natural bone porosity can still be seen. Discovery in the northwestern Sahara region. This Cretaceous animal was one of the largest marine predators.

Mosasaurus was one of the last mosasaurs, as well as being among the largest. As with most mosasaurs, the limbs had evolved into short but efficient flippers, with the forelimbs larger than the hind limbs. The largest known species, M. hoffmannii, could reach a length of 17–18 meters (56 feet)[1], slightly longer than its closer relatives Tylosaurus and Hainosaurus. Moreover, Mosasaurus was also the most robust among mosasaurs, reaching a considerable weight of 25–30 tonnes in the more developed specimens,[2] especially the skull equipped with a jaw tightly connected to the cranium. The body was long, thick, and barrel-shaped. The eyes were relatively large but provided limited binocular vision, and the olfactory bulbs were not well developed, therefore experts believe that Mosasaurus lived near the surface.
