2011 was a year of transition and great historic charm for Formula 1. The Lotus Renault GP team revived for the 2011 season the legendary black and gold livery, a clear homage to the historic and iconic Lotus John Player Special driven in the 1970s and 1980s by legends such as Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi and Mario Andretti.
The R31 went down in F1 history for bold and extreme technical solutions, including the innovative forward-facing exhaust system.
Car numbers #9 and #10 (called out on the sides of the cap) were driven by drivers of the calibre of Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov (as well as Bruno Senna and Romain Grosjean).
