Description from the seller

Rare Glass Purification Vessel in Blown Crystal with IHS Monogram – 19th Century

Elegant and rare liturgical purification vessel made of transparent blown crystal, dating to the 19th century. The piece features a refined footed cup with its original lid topped by a solid glass cross, a symbolic element that immediately identifies its ecclesiastical function.

On the body is engraved the traditional IHS monogram, emblem of the Name of Jesus, enclosed within a stylized laurel crown and flanked by slender linear motifs. The execution is sober and elegant, perfectly in line with 19th-century liturgical production.

These vessels were used during the celebration of the Holy Mass to preserve water intended for purifying the priest’s fingers after contact with the consecrated hosts, or to collect the residues of purification of sacred vessels, thus taking on an important symbolic value as well as a functional one.

The crystal displays the typical luminosity of artisanal blown glass, with faint bubbles and minimal irregularities inherent to manual production of the era. The object remains in excellent general condition, with normal and very slight signs of time compatible with its age.

Today it represents a refined collectible for enthusiasts of sacred art, antique glass, and liturgy, as well as an elegant decorative element for studies, libraries, historic homes, and ecclesiastical collections.

Era: 19th Century
Country of Origin: Italy
Material: Incised blown crystal
Dimensions: Height 14 cm – Diameter 8 cm

The photographs are an integral part of the description and faithfully document the conservation status, quality, and details of the piece.
