Altar - Wood - 1800-1850 - Holy Trinity - 62 cm

Exceptional Baroque-style devotional altar, originally from Italy and dated to the second half of the 19th century (circa 1850). It is a piece of great beauty and superb artisanal craftsmanship that combines relief sculpture and painting. The ensemble is made on a solid wooden structure meticulously hand-carved, decorated with lateral architectural volutes and a period leaf-gold finish. The curved perimeter frame is richly ornamented with inlays of cut stained stones in multiple tonalities that capture light in a unique way. In the central part stands a beautiful oil on panel/canvas representing a moving scene of the Holy Trinity in its iconography of the Celestial Pieta: God the Father holding the lifeless body of Jesus Christ, crowned at the top by carved reliefs of Christ on the Cross and the dove of the Holy Spirit.
