Italian school (XVIII) - Cristo Portacroce

Old painting depicting Christ carrying the cross, executed in oil on canvas in an oval format and subsequently mounted on a rectangular support.

The work measures 67 × 91 cm in the painted oval part and 73 × 100 cm in the overall dimensions of the support.

There are no signatures or visible inscriptions and it is not accompanied by certificates or attribution documentation.

As a hobbyist rather than an expert, I believe it may be an Italian work from the Baroque period, plausibly dated to the late 17th or early 18th century, but I naturally leave any assessment to specialists.

The painting comes from an Italian private collection.

The condition is that typical of an antique work: it shows widespread craquelure, an old re-stretching, and some restorations carried out over time, in addition to the normal signs of use and aging. The photographs constitute an integral part of the description and allow a detailed assessment of its condition.
