Description from the seller

Gouda Delftware – Purdah decor – lid with high stand – Made in Holland – ca. 1920–1930
Object description

A particularly decorative Dutch Gouda pottery object with lid, executed in the colorful Purdah decor and manufactured in Gouda, Holland.

The object has a striking architectural form with a broad round base, a long tapering shaft and a globular reservoir with a spout. It is completed by a matching lid with an elevated knob.

The decoration is unusually richly executed. Against a predominantly deep blue ground are stylized floral and geometric ornaments applied in, among others, ocher yellow, red-brown, green, blue and cream. The long shaft is painted with large symmetrical motifs that continue towards the foot. The reservoir features a dense pattern of stylized scrolls and floral shapes.

The combination of form, color palette and strongly stylized ornamentation is characteristic of the Dutch Gouda Delftware from the early decades of the 20th century.
