Andrea Krauß counts among the striking figures of contemporary German painting. The recipient of the AOK Nordost Art Prize (Berlin/Brandenburg) and former fellow of the renowned Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop completed her studies at the Braunschweig University of Art. For many years she has consistently dedicated herself to painting and today lives and works in her studio in the heart of Berlin. At the center of her artistic work lies the connection between memory, atmosphere and landscape. Starting from personal impressions, Andrea Krauß develops imagery that points beyond the individual and touches universal experiences of nature, space and transience. Recurring motifs are especially birches and other elements of nature, whose quiet presence merges with traces of human shaping and memory. Characteristic of her works is the layered combination of painting and drawing. In her acrylic paintings, fine relief structures arise through the use of sand, spatula techniques and integrated lines, giving the works a special tactile quality and spatial depth. The lines drawn directly into the color layers act like inscribed memories and shape the artist’s unmistakable handwriting.
