Description from the seller

The Yaka of the DRC are renowned for their ritual sculptures linked to initiation societies and ancestor worship. The carved posts, often placed in huts or sanctuaries, served as symbolic supports connecting the world of the living to that of protective spirits. Anthropomorphic figures with stylized forms evoke fertility, authority, and spiritual protection. These works accompanied initiation rites, healing ceremonies, and divinatory practices within Yaka communities.

Collection of Professor Jacques, Belgium

Introduction to our appraisal house

Based in Belgium, our appraisal and sales house specializes in African art and ethnography. A trusted seller on Catawiki for more than eight years, we benefit from a solid reputation and a history of several hundred sales with a virtually 100% satisfaction rate.

We regularly assist with liquidations, estates, and dispersals of collections, in collaboration with private individuals and families in Belgium and neighboring countries. Our approach is rigorous, transparent, and accessible, with many sales offered without a reserve price.

Some pieces that have passed through our hands have joined international private collections and, for some, museum institutions.

All of our collections are visible year-round at specialist fairs and exhibitions, as well as through the online catalog of our gallery Héritage Galerie:
