Description from the seller
1981 Ferrari 400i Automatic
GENERAL
This 1981 Ferrari 400i Automatic is a particularly elegant and characterful classic Ferrari, finished in a very stylish and distinctive color scheme: Azzurro blue. The light-blue bodywork forms a beautiful combination with the beige leather interior and perfectly emphasizes the timeless Grand Touring character of the 400i.
The car has a documented history and has had several long-term owners during its life, which contributes to the interesting and well-documented background of this Ferrari.
An important part of the documented history is the engine rebuild at around 82,926 kilometers, carried out by Ferrari specialist France Italie Automobiles in Paris.
Technically, the car is currently in exceptionally good condition and offers exactly the comfortable, smooth, and powerful driving experience for which the Ferrari 400i is known.
BODYWORK / PAINTWORK
The body is finished in the original light blue color, a particularly elegant shade that suits the classic lines of the Ferrari 400i magnificently.
The long hood, low roofline, and distinctive Pininfarina styling give the 400i a restrained yet impressive appearance. It is a Ferrari that does not rely on exuberant spoilers or large air intakes, but convinces through its fine proportions and classic Italian design.
Given the age of the car there are naturally a few small cosmetic signs of use and aging here and there. There are also light signs of delamination visible in the rear window. These points however do little to detract from the overall presentation and fit a classic that has actually been driven and cherished.
The car presents itself as an honest and well-kept classic Ferrari, without being presented as a fully brand-new restored example.
TECHNICAL / ENGINE
The Ferrari 400i is powered by the characteristic Ferrari V12 engine, paired with an automatic transmission. This combination makes the 400i ideally suited as a fast and comfortable Grand Tourer.
The automatic transmission complements the character of the 400i perfectly and enables relaxed driving over longer distances.
The technical condition and the documented engine overhaul make this specimen particularly interesting for a connoisseur who values not only appearance but also the maintenance history of a classic Ferrari.
The Ferrari has very recently obtained a new MOT without any remarks or objections.
INTERIOR
The interior is finished in beige leather and forms a very tasteful combination with the light-blue exterior.
The interior of the Ferrari 400i is typical for a luxury Italian Grand Tourer from this period: lots of leather, a clear dashboard, and a comfortable 2+2 configuration.
The beige leather gives the interior a warm and luxurious appearance and strongly contributes to the distinctive character of this car.
The front seats show an overall patina consistent with normal use. The leather also shows locally light signs of drying. These age- and use-related marks are in keeping with the original and authentic character of the car and do not detract from the well-maintained overall impression of the interior.
WHEELS & TIRES
The classic wheel configuration nicely complements the original design of the Ferrari 400i and preserves the elegant look with which the model was originally delivered.
The rims have been repainted and then finished with a transparent powder coating. This not only presents them beautifully but also provides durable protection.
In 2024 the Ferrari was equipped with a new set of Michelin TRX tires. These tires fit the original wheel configuration and contribute to both the authentic appearance and the comfortable Grand Touring character of the car.
HISTORY & DOCUMENTATION
A strong point of this Ferrari is its demonstrable history.
The car has had several long-term owners during its life and documentation is available that supports important parts of its past and maintenance.
This history gives a future owner significantly more insight into the car’s past and upkeep than is the case with many other examples from this period.
CONDITION
This Ferrari 400i is technically in exceptionally good condition and presents itself as an attractive, honest, and usable classic Ferrari.
We believe these points are in line with the age and use of the car and do not significantly detract from its overall appearance.
It is emphatically not a concours car that is only on display statically, but a beautiful and characterful Ferrari that invites actual driving.
PICK-UP
The Ferrari can be viewed by appointment and can be picked up by arrangement.
Transportation can be arranged upon request in consultation.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
