Vacheron Constantin - V458 - Unisex - 1940

Vacheron Constantin wristwatch in rose gold, dating from approximately the late 1930s to the early 1940s.

The watch is especially notable for its beautiful teardrop lugs, which give the case a very distinctive and elegant presence. The proportions are extremely refined: 29.5 mm in diameter, 30.5 mm including the crown, 36 mm lug to lug, and only 7.1 mm thick. It is a true extra-flat dress watch, originally conceived for the discerning gentleman of the period and, today, equally suitable as a unisex vintage watch.

The rose gold case is complemented by a very attractive period dial with Roman numerals, applied hour markers, outer minute track and small seconds at 6 o’clock.

The dial has been examined by several knowledgeable collectors and experts and is believed to be original and unrestored. It retains the natural character of an approximately 80-year-old dial, including visible age-related discoloration around the small-seconds register at 6 o’clock and other subtle signs of patina. As with any watch of this age, it is impossible to guarantee that no minor cleaning or intervention has ever taken place during its lifetime.

Inside is the hand-wound Vacheron Constantin calibre V458, a particularly fine and slim movement from this period. Its elegant, extra-flat construction is an important part of the appeal of the watch and allows the complete case to remain only 7.1 mm thick.

The watch is running properly and was checked and lubricated approximately two years ago.
