Description from the seller

Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artisans in walnut wood.

Made in the mid-20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola is a folding chair, closing like a book and made up of serpentine-curved elements and cross X intersections. The backrest depicts the lily, the Florentine symbol, while it is wrapped in floral decorations. At the ends of the armrests there are two lion effigies.

The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), in whose era a chair of this type would still be preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.

In good overall condition, normal signs of wear and age (see photos). The chair has recently been restored with anti-woodworm treatment and wax for wood finishing. Dimensions: 90 cm height x 60 cm length.
