A letter sent by penny post by Mr. Boughton Rous to the British Colour Company, Walbrook, London. With the receipt for the payment of his invoice as requested in his letter.
A letter received by the same person in India was sold by Christie's for £32,200. It is true that this letter had an exceptional strike (postmark)!!
He was an employee of the East India Company and was the Chief of the Provincial Council of Revenue in Dacca.
Mr. Boughton Rous was a baronet of Rous Lench and a Member of Parliament. For his experience in India he was appointed Secretary to the India Board in 1784.
