Portuguese seating furniture set from the 19th century, in the Louis XV taste, comprising a canapé and a pair of fauteuils, crafted in carved walnut wood with gilded accents. The canapé features a structure with sinuous, dynamic lines characteristic of Rococo revival, a wide, recut backrest softly embracing, arranged in three upholstered panels, with a central large oval medallion framed by a gilded moulding. The upper crest is defined by a wavy cresting, enriched at the center by expressive vegetal-and-rocaille-inspired carving, extending laterally into curves and sinuous shapes. The continuous seat, slightly arched, fully upholstered, rests on a cut and framed waist. The waist front displays carved decoration, highlighted by a central motif of buttoned shells, volutes, and vegetal elements, complemented by small ornamental touches distributed along the crosspiece. Lateral supports have curved, enveloping profiles ending in scrolls. The front legs are tall, curved and elegantly bent, Cabriole-inspired, with scroll end feet; the rear legs are simpler in design and slightly recurved. The pair of fauteuils, designed in stylistic correspondence with the canapé, has high, contoured backs with an upholstered surface of rounded design and a carved wooden frame. The crown of each backrest is particularly ornate, featuring a central composition of shells and vegetal relief elements, flanked by volutes. Open, sinuous arms with upholstered supports, held by curved, sculptural mounts. Wide, slightly splayed seats, framed by a cut waist, with central carvings of shells, foliage, and volutes. The front legs are Cabriole, with an elegant profile, continuing the Rococo language of the set. The wood surfaces display frames, carvings, and details highlighted by gilding, creating contrast with the warm walnut tone. The set is upholstered in a mustard/yellow-gold velvet-like fabric, applied to the seats, backrests, and arm supports, finished with a decorative galloon. Pieces with a strong decorative presence, evidencing the 19th-century restoration of the French language of the Louis XV reign, notably through controlled asymmetry, curvilinear lines, shells, scrolls, vegetal elements, and Cabriole legs. This is a harmonious set representative of 19th-century Portuguese ceremonial furniture intended originally for reception rooms or a salon.
