20th century mahogany cigar box from the United Kingdom with a double-opening design for cigarette display, brown in colour, 18 × 14 × 12 cm, in good used condition with small signs of aging, titled Boîte à cigares Victoria.
Description from the seller
Very beautiful Victorian oak double-opening box for cigarette displays.
A small symbol of social status:
The dual design reveals a very practical intention unique to the 19th century, when smoking was a social ritual and cigarette cases became items for constant use. By opening it, the interior structure shows meticulous organization, almost engineering-like, allowing the cigarettes to be stored neatly and protected. The elastic bands are a detail that combines utility with discretion—they hold the contents without diminishing the overall beauty.
The exterior maintains this Victorian aesthetic that blends sobriety with a taste for well-executed details. The straight lines, slightly rounded edges, and balanced proportions testify to a craftsman who knew his trade and sought an elegant result without ostentation. Mahogany was highly valued at the time for its resilience and reddish hue.
