Description from the seller

Christofle “America” by Luc Lanel – Rare Early Art Deco Cutlery Service, c. 1933–1935

A remarkable early Christofle “America” cutlery service, designed by the renowned French designer Luc Lanel in 1933. The “America” pattern is one of Christofle’s distinctive Art Deco designs, characterised by its elegant geometric forms, clean lines and stepped architectural details.

This impressive service is presented in its original fitted Christofle presentation cases, which greatly enhance its historical and collector appeal. The set includes a substantial selection of matching table cutlery together with serving pieces, all arranged in their original fitted compartments.

Particularly noteworthy is the early Christofle hallmark visible on the pieces. The hallmark corresponds to the earlier Christofle marking used before the introduction of the later “OC” mark, supporting a production date in the early period of the America pattern, approximately 1933–1935.

The cutlery has been carefully cleaned and polished and presents beautifully, with a bright reflective finish. Minor scratches, small surface marks and signs of age remain, consistent with the age and previous use of the pieces. The original cases also show natural signs of age and wear, adding to their authentic vintage character.

The combination of Luc Lanel’s celebrated Art Deco design, early Christofle production, the extensive matching service and original fitted presentation cases makes this an especially appealing set for collectors of French Art Deco, Christofle and historic fine tableware.
