Description from the seller
This special Delft blue anniversary plate was manufactured in 1983 by the renowned Dutch earthenware manufacturer Royal Goedewaagen for the 100-year anniversary of Sijthoff / Haagsche Courant (1883–1983). A characteristic piece of Dutch pottery, Delft blue, vintage earthenware and local Dutch history.
Centrally on this decorative wall plate is the former headquarters of Sijthoff Pers in Rijswijk, located in the Plaspoelpolder. The striking modernist and architecturally distinctive building was opened in 1981 and served as the headquarters of the publisher of, among others, the Haagsche Courant. The detailed blue-and-white depiction is framed by a traditional Delft blue floral border with floral motifs.
The plate is a fine example of Royal Goedewaagen Blue Delft and combines traditional Delft blue earthenware with a modernist architectural subject. The depiction makes this Dutch anniversary plate interesting for collectors of Delft blue, Royal Goedewaagen, Dutch ceramics, vintage earthenware, Dutch architecture, historic buildings, Sijthoff, Haagsche Courant and historical memorabilia.
On the back there is the original Royal Goedewaagen crown mark, with the text “Royal Goedewaagen – Blue Delft – Holland”. It also states that the plate was issued in memory of the 100-year Sijthoff/Haagsche Courant anniversary 1883–1983.
The Delft blue plate has a diameter of approximately 24 cm and is in very good vintage condition. There are no visible chips, cracks or restorations. There are some minor signs of age and use, appropriate for a ceramic object from 1983. View the photos for a full view of the condition.
