Description from the seller
This object is a traditional ceremonial crown or headband (also known as Ringa or Mukut) from the Himalayan region, specifically used in Buddhist and tantric rites in Nepal and Tibet. This type of headband is worn by Buddhist monks, priests (Vajracharyas) or shamans during sacred dances (Cham dances) and tantric ceremonies:
The five panels traditionally represent the Five Dhyani Buddhas. In a wrathful, tantric variant these are depicted as fearsome faces or skulls (Citipati) to symbolize conquering the ego and impermanence.
The faces are finely carved from probably yak bone and mounted on textile panels. The edges are decorated with beads that are also bone-made. The fabric bands on top are used to tie the crown at the back of the head.
Carefully packed and insured for shipping.
