Chalice - .950 silver - Papal States, 1779

Important liturgical chalice stamped Pontifical State, signed and dated 1779. The chalice is made entirely of solid silver, with repoussé, pierced work and hand chasing by a master silversmith active in Rome at the end of the 18th century.

The inner cup is gold-plated silver, with hallmarks present on the cup, while at the base there are signatures with a probable dedication and a second hallmark identifying the Pontifical State and a second mark relating to the silversmith.

This chalice is extremely rare as it is not only signed with the day and month but is also dated with the year 1779, making it very rare to find from the 1700s.
