Description from the seller
Antique pair Dutch coffee warmers / Kraantjeskan – Hand-painted, signed (W. van Yperen)
For sale is a beautiful, rare pair of traditional Dutch coffee warmers (so-called Kraantjeskan or Kraantjespot) made of sheet metal/tin, probably from the late 19th or early 20th century.
These pots are not only historical witnesses to the refined coffee culture, but through their artistic, detailed hand painting in the Dutch folk-art style they are absolute eye-catchers for collectors and lovers of antiques.
Details & features
• Function: The bulbous pots stand on elegant, three-legged frames. At the bottom is the original spirit burner, with which the coffee was kept hot on the table back then. The beverage is traditionally poured via the small front taps ("Kräne").
• Motif Pot 1: Shows a detailed, historic city- and church-scene with passersby in traditional clothing.
• Motif Pot 2: Shows an idyllic rural scene with a thatched courtyard, trees and a shepherd with his flock.
• Artist signature: Both artworks are signed on the paintings by the artist ("Wouter van Yperen" / "W. v. Yperen").
• Color: Noble matte black with fine gold-colored ornaments and embellishments.
Condition
The pots are in an age-appropriate, decorative original condition with a beautiful patina. The paintings are very well preserved and the colors have great depth. Minor signs of aging and wear on the surface and the metal frames are present and give the pieces their authentic antique character (details see photos). The function of the taps and burners has not been explicitly tested – sale primarily as a high-quality decorative object / collectible.
Delivery contents
• 2x antique coffee pots with tap
• 2x three-legged table frames
• 2x accompanying burners (spirit lamps)
Are documented in the book by Enrico Maltoni.
