Description from the seller
Devotional Plaques.
Two beautifully detailed, antique Roman Catholic devotional plaques and reliquary plates from the early 20th century, measuring 29 by 21 centimeters. This richly decorated object is made of copper and features a high-quality, glossy polishing that is still beautifully intact. The shield has an elegant Baroque design with a profiled edge and centrally displays an impressive monstrance with a prominent rays corona in which the Holy IHS monogram is incorporated. The monstrance is flanked on both sides by two beautifully wrought, kneeling angels in deep relief, surrounded by refined floral scroll ornaments, acanthus leaves and an unworked cartouche at the bottom. Such plaques were used around 1900 in the region of France, Belgium and the Netherlands as decorative backplates for reliquaries, as ornaments on church furniture or as devotional objects for wall hanging. The object is in very good condition with minimal, age-related signs and forms a beautiful piece of religious heritage for the collector of religious objects and antique church goods. The lot will be packed with utmost care and shipped worldwide with Track & Trace.
