Russian icon of Christ Pantocrator in a glass-front kiot – dated 1851
Orthodox icon representing Christ Pantocrator, painted in tempera on a wooden panel and covered with a silvered metal oklad (riza) embossed. The Christ is depicted blessing with the right hand and holding the opened Gospel. The whole piece is preserved in its original glass-front kiot in wood.
An old label on the reverse indicates a date of 1851, consistent with the style of the icon and its oklad. Beautiful patina of age and sober presentation in an elegant rectangular kiot.
Condition: good overall, with signs of wear, craquelure in the paint, slight oxidation of the oklad, and cracks in the wood
