Striking matching pair of handcrafted Dutch studio pottery chamber candlesticks, made at the Sint-Adelbertabdij (Egmond Abbey) in Egmond-Binnen, dating from the 1960s.
The two candlesticks are identical in design but show the subtle variations characteristic of handmade pottery. They feature cylindrical green and turquoise glazed bodies, wide flared candle bowls in rich oxblood red, expressive textured decoration and raised central candle spikes.
Both bases bear the distinctive impressed “ABDIJ” mark associated with the pottery workshop of the Sint-Adelbertabdij.
The hand-etched "XH" Monogram on the left is the distinct master craftsman signature of Dutch studio potter Hans van Driessen.
Condition: Excellent, essentially unused condition. The candlesticks have only been displayed decoratively and have never had candles burned in them. The original glazes are exceptionally well preserved, with no wax residue or signs of candle use.
