Description from the seller

I am selling here two antique candlesticks from my grandparents’ estate.

Height: 61.5 cm & 63.5 cm (measured without the pricket)

The information I could research:
Pair of altar candlesticks (Pricket Candlesticks) made of turned, polychrome wood, estimated to date from the 18th century, possibly also the early 19th century (Baroque or Classical/late Baroque).

Reasons supporting this:
* Form and style: The baluster-turned shafts, vase-like bulges, and the square base plates are absolutely characteristic of sacred candlesticks of Italian or Southern European Baroque.
* Material and finish: The original polychrome finish (creme, greenish/turquoise and yellow/ochre accents) with typical craquelure, as well as the deep age marks in the wood of the left candlestick, indicate great age.

* The pricket: The long, hand-forged iron prickets on the top were used in the 17th to 19th centuries to skewer thick altar candles.

Self-pickup in 50996 Köln-Rodenkirchen or insured shipping.

Please also note my other listings; we are clearing out on a large scale.
