Candlestick (2) - Bronze - Torch holder zero

Two antique, one-meter-high candle-stands for large candles, from a Sicilian baglio, made with brass and turned copper elements, each weighing 4 kg. They feature a baluster stem with a gilded central knot, an upper wax-gathering plate equipped with a long iron point to fix the large liturgical candles, and rest on a tripod base with scrolling feet. This type of tall candlestick, typical of sacred productions of the 1800s. The weight of 4 kg each (8 kg for the pair) is an excellent quality indicator, confirming the sturdiness and stability of the pieces. For one-meter-tall torches, 4 kg shows that these are not thin stamped copper or brass sheets (very light), but rather cast-metal elements and thick plates assembled by hand, consistent with antique craftsmanship dated between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
