Description from the seller

Antique Victorian Sterling Silver-Mounted Walking Cane – London 1891

An elegant late Victorian English walking cane, surmounted by a substantial sterling silver pommel of distinctive spirally fluted form. The upper surface incorporates a shaped cartouche engraved with an elaborate period monogram, adding considerable character and individuality to the piece.

The silver mount bears British hallmarks for London, 1891, dating the cane firmly to the late Victorian period.

The silver pommel is fitted to a slender dark-toned wooden shaft with a rich aged surface and attractive patina. The restrained form of the shaft provides an elegant contrast to the strongly modelled silver handle.

Good antique condition overall, with wear consistent with age and use. The silver pommel shows surface wear, scratches, small marks and minor irregularities associated with its age. The wooden shaft displays age-related surface wear, marks, scratches and variations to the finish. The original ferrule is no longer present and the exposed lower end shows wear and loss to the finish. Please study the photographs carefully as they form an integral part of the condition report.
