Antique Louis XV‑style French side table with a pau santo veneered top and mahogany plus other noble woods, decorated with marquetry and gilt bronze accents, dimensions 50 × 69 × 43 cm.
Description from the seller
Louis XV occasional table with marquetry. French, or of French influence, from the early 20th century, inspired by Louis XV, in mahogany and other noble woods, with the top veneered in pau-santo, featuring a symmetric spine-like composition and rich marquetry decoration. Top of rectangular shape with clipped corners and a curving contour, decorated by an inlaid surround and a central composition of vegetal and stylized floral motifs, executed in woods with contrasting tones, with highlights in light wood inlays, possibly hawthorn. The surface of the top presents pau-santo veneer arranged in a symmetric composition, enhancing the natural grain and the wood’s figure. The waist features an undulating cut and vegetal-character decoration, following the movement of the top. It rests on four cabriole legs with sinuous profiles, typical of Louis XV design, enriched by ornamental gilded metal applications, Rocaille-inspired, placed along the legs and at the feet. The piece combines the elegant and dynamic design of French furniture in the Louis XV tradition with the characteristic execution of the historicist revival of the early 20th century, standing out for the quality of the veneer, marquetry decoration, and gilded metal applications. Dimensions: 50 x 69 x 43 cm.
