Description from the seller
English Tea Caddy – 19th Century – inlaid wood – curved lid – classic Tea Caddy
A charming and characterful English tea caddy from the 19th century, crafted from beautiful warm-toned wood and refined with decorative inlay work. Such tea caddies formed a characteristic part of English tea culture and were used to store precious tea carefully and securely sealed.
The caddy features an elegant curved lid and is bordered with a contrasting inlaid band of light and dark wood tones. In the center of the lid there is an oval inlaid medallion with a decorative motif, giving the piece a refined appearance.
At the front is a richly decorated metal keyplate. The caddy rests on four small metal feet. The warm patina of the wood and the visible signs of age emphasize the authentic character of this object, more than a hundred years old.
English tea caddies from the 19th century were not only practical but were also produced as representative interior objects. The combination of the curved lid, delicate inlay work, and decorative fittings makes this example an attractive representative of this typically British tradition.
