Busycon contrarium, also known as "Sinistrofulgur Sinistrum", is a species of spiral sea snail, the shell of a marine mollusk. This species is particularly interesting for its unusual characteristic: the shell's spiral develops counterclockwise, which is contrary to the norm, since most shells of marine mollusks develop clockwise. Belonging to the family Busyconidae and described by S. C. Hollister, 1958. These shells are found primarily along the Atlantic coasts of North America, from New Jersey to Florida. Busycon contrarium is known for its large size and sturdy shell, often used in the past by some Native American populations for ornamental and ceremonial purposes. The silvering was performed in a more decorative way than the classic full coverage, in order to showcase the shine of the silver while preserving the colors and the internal markings of this splendid specimen.
