Description from the seller
Introduction
This is a Tissot open-face pocket watch signed on the white dial 'Chs. Tissot & Fils / Depuis 1853', featuring bold Arabic numerals, a full outer 24-hour numeral track around the chapter ring, blued-steel hands, and a subsidiary seconds sub-dial at the 6 o'clock position. The movement is a Swiss-made manual-winding caliber with ruby jewels, visible with the caseback opened. The solid case back is engraved 'TEN YEAR'S '94', indicating a commemorative presentation piece dated 1994.
Historical / Era context
Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Émile founded Chs. Tissot & Fils in Le Locle, Switzerland, in 1853 — the date proudly stated on every dial of this family. The 'Depuis 1853' signature is the traditional long-form branding Tissot used on dress and presentation pieces throughout the twentieth century. This example was presented as a ten-year service award in 1994, giving it a clear and personal provenance. The open-face form, sub-seconds layout, and 24-hour outer track reflect Tissot's heritage of producing legible, practical pocket watches for professional and institutional clients.
Condition
The watch is running and keeping good time. The watch was checked lying flat (dial up) after a full wind. This is a spot check at the time of listing; as a vintage mechanical watch the rate in actual wear varies with position and winding state, and long-term accuracy is not guaranteed. As a vintage timepiece it may benefit from a service.
Case: The case surfaces retain a good level of polish with only scattered fine scratches on the mid-band and caseback consistent with normal handling over the years. The bezel rim shows light wear. No dents or deformations are present. The presentation engraving on the caseback is crisp and clear.
Dial: The white dial is clean and legible throughout. The printed numerals and 24-hour track are sharp with no fading. There is a hairline crack running diagonally across the lower-left quadrant of the dial, visible in the photos.
Crystal: The crystal is clear and free of chips. There are light surface scratches consistent with age.
Movement: The watch is running. With the caseback opened, the Swiss manual-winding movement is visible; it is signed and carries ruby jewels set in a brushed nickel-finished plate. The movement is marked 'SWISS' and 'UNADJUSTED', with seven jewels visible on the plate.
Accessories: No box, papers, or chain are included. The watch is sold as pictured.
