Icon - Nicholas the Wonderworker - Wood

Large-format Russian icon of Saint Nicholas of Myra from the 19th century, hand-painted with egg tempera on a wooden panel.

The motif shows the saint as a bishop in half-length portrait against a plain brown background. Nicholas wears the omophorion (bishop's stole) with crosses, shows the blessing gesture with his right hand, and holds the Gospel Book in his left hand. To his left and right, Jesus Christ and the Mother of God Mary are depicted inside circular medallions. The Virgin Mary is shown with both hands outstretched towards Saint Nicholas, while Christ holds the Gospel Book in one hand and points to it with the other.

The sacred object is in its unrestored original condition with age-related signs of wear and an authentic patina.
