Nineteenth-century Indian seating furniture set, comprising a canapé and a pair of armchairs, crafted in carved wood, painted in ivory-toned finish and highlighted with gold accents. The design blends ornamental vocabulary inspired by Europe, leaning toward Rococo taste and historicist styles, with a lavish decorative interpretation characteristic of nineteenth-century Indian production. The canapé features a large-scale structure, with a continuous upholstered seat and a backrest composed of three distinct elements. The two lateral backrests, with curvilinear contour and balloon-like shape, are flanked in the center by an oval backrest arranged horizontally and framed by an ornate carved surround. The composition is unified by an exuberant central finial, cut away and deeply carved, depicting volutes, shell motifs, leaves, flowers, garlands and plant-based elements. The joins between the different backrests are filled with sinuous structures, worked with volutes, acanthus leaves and floral motifs, creating a continuous composition with a strong theatrical impact. The front waist of the canapé features a cut profile and carved decoration with volutes, floral reservoirs and a large central open motif, composed of flowers, leaves and rocaille elements. The armchairs have tall backrests with a curved, bulging edge, similarly upholstered and encompassed by carved frames. The upper finials are richly decorated with shell forms, acanthus leaves, flowers and scrolls, some of them perforated, emphasising the sculptural richness of the ensemble. One of the most distinctive aspects of the set lies in the arms, whose upper supports are padded and upholstered in fabric. The front ends take on a zoomorphic form, representing animal heads, probably canine-inspired. These extend vertically into carved supports with leaves and plant motifs, terminating in the front legs. The seats, backrests and arm supports are clad in patterned fabric in beige, ivory, olive green, brown and gold tones. The bands alternate between geometric patterns and small plant motifs, providing visual depth and chromatically matching the painting and gilding of the structure. The front legs have a curved profile and carved decoration, while the rear legs are simpler and slightly inclined. The entire structure is enriched with moldings, reserves, volutes, leaves, flowers and small raised elements, highlighted by applied gilt on a light background. The set shows signs of age and use, consistent with its age and use. A grand decorative presence, suitable for a grand drawing room, reception room, hallway, historic hotel, palace-inspired interior design project, or a collection of nineteenth-century Indian and colonial furniture.
