Description from the seller
Collection of 4 old brass coffee grinders – cylinder model – Middle East – approx. 1900–1950
Description
A characterful collection of 4 old cylindrical hand mills, mainly made of brass. This tall, narrow type of grinder was traditionally used for fine grinding of coffee and spices and is characteristic of the Middle East and the former Ottoman cultural area.
The four items vary in size, patina, and decoration. Several grinders feature engraved geometric and figurative embellishments. The dark example still has an existing crank handle.
The collection has an attractive authentic appearance with clear signs of use and naturally formed patina.
Quantity: 4 pieces
Material: mainly brass and other metal parts
Estimated production period: approx. 1900–1950
Probable origin: Middle East / former Ottoman cultural area
Use: coffee/spice grinders
Condition
Used, aged condition with clear signs of age and use, including scratches, discoloration, oxidation, residue and patina. The pieces have not been restored or polished.
The operation and completeness of the grinding mechanisms have not been checked. In several pieces the original crank is missing or other parts may be missing. The piece with the present handle is also offered solely as decorative/collectible object; the grinding function has not been tested.
The entire lot is therefore sold for collection, decoration and/or restoration, with no guarantee of operation or completeness.
