Germany, Hamburg, 1923 Notgeld 200,000 Mark, MS66 graded by NGC.
Description from the seller
GERMANY. Hamburg. 200,000 Mark. 1923.
- Value: 200,000 Mark.
- Year: 1923.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: FREIE UND HANSESTADT HAMBURG. Reverse: NOTGELD · 200000 MARK · 1. AUGUST 1923.
- Grade: MS66 (NGC).
Coin of 200,000 Mark issued as Notgeld by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg during the German hyperinflation of 1923. The obverse features the coat of arms of Hamburg, held up by two rampant lions and crowned, surrounded by the city's official legend, in a heraldic design of great sobriety and balance. The reverse shows the denomination of 200,000 Mark in the center, accompanied by the inscription Notgeld and the issue date, 1 August 1923, reflecting the dizzying rise in face values characteristic of that period. The specimen remains in exceptional condition, with fully defined relief, satin surfaces and original sheen practically intact, qualities fully in line with the MS66 grade awarded by NGC. These emergency issues constitute an important historical testimony of the monetary crisis that affected Germany after World War I, when numerous cities and local authorities turned to Notgeld to maintain monetary circulation during the hyperinflation.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to leave absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or inside EU that has special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped in your local customs and they might ask you to pay taxes. This is a customs legal procedure and it is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
