Description from the seller

Antique silver plated biscuit box of oval form, bright cut engraved with ribbon tied floral swags and a vacant oval cartouche, the hinged domed cover rising from an integral beaded stand on four ball feet.

The biscuit box was a fixture of the late Victorian and Edwardian tea table, kept on the sideboard and opened for guests. This one is built as a single piece: the oval body sits within its own beaded oval stand rather than on a separate tray, so the two cannot become parted.

The body is engraved on both sides with an oval reserve framed by a laurel border and flanked by ribbon tied bellflower drops and sprays of naturalistic flowers, in the neoclassical taste that returned to English silver at the end of the nineteenth century. The reserve is vacant and takes a monogram or crest if wanted. The cover is engraved with a matching border and lifts on a shell thumbpiece.

The interior is plain and unlined, and the base is plain between the four ball feet.
