Explanation of the work:
Metal or steel is one of the hardest and most resistant materials we have. As a master of steel, I am accustomed to feeling its hardness and strength, and to seeing that force represented in the essence of metallic sculptures. But with this new collection I want to do the opposite, something even more complicated: to endow it with sensitivity and to fool the viewer by presenting a sculpture made from hard and resistant steel that looks like silk, that appears to be a delicate and elegant piece, simple and fragile, yet visually powerful.
These are pieces of stainless steel finished with reliefs, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. With them I seek a more relaxed elegance and the desire to create a mind trick in the viewer, like an trompe-l'œil.
They are forged with utmost care, in an idyllic setting, in full connection with steel and art. They are born with the sound of every fold, of strength and delicacy, and from there the notes of their movements—seemingly wrinkled and open—flow.
I am drawn to artisanal and disruptive designs, so, with these vertical, wall-mounted sculptures, I focus on becoming part of a new reality, where I seek color, texture, and sinuous shapes. Who would say it is steel? These sculptures, with a magically wrinkled appearance, make me revere this so primitive material, for it makes everything possible, without limits to creation or creativity. Even steel can seem as light as silk.
The piece plays with a mirror-like effect that makes light bounce and creates spectacular play of light and shadow, forming a sculpture at the forefront of contemporary art.

José Soler is a sculptor based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Monaco, Italy, and France. Through each of his pieces, he strives to bring out the melody that lives inside each of us. Soler cites the transformation of cold steel into sculpture as his way of connecting with what is invisible to our eyes and what can only be perceived with universal feelings.
