Description from the seller

This atmospheric watercolor offers a fine glimpse of nineteenth-century Volendam, with women in traditional costumes depicting everyday life in the fishing village. The work was created by Paulus Philippus (Paul) Rink (1861–1903), a versatile Dutch artist who worked as a painter, watercolorist, draftsman and lithographer. His oeuvre includes figure compositions, landscapes, portraits and cityscapes. Rink captured mood and character in his watercolors with sensitivity. His work is held in several Dutch museum collections, including the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, the Noordbrabants Museum and the Singer Laren.
