Elegant and unusual late 19th-century Italian coffee/center table, standing on an impressive central base in heavily carved wood and crowned by a thick Verde marble top of an especially rare and expressive shape. Rather than the usual rectangular form, the top features a deliberately sinuous contour, with a broad arched front, curved ends, oblique corners, and slightly converging sides, creating an almost oval, sculptural silhouette. This cut, executed specifically for the piece, is one of its main points of interest and clearly differentiates it from more conventional historicist coffee tables of the period.

The marble, a very dark green tone with white and light-green veining, shows characteristics compatible with Verde Alpi, a much-valued Italian stone in decorative furniture. The thickness of the top and the molded edge finish amplify the piece’s visual monumental quality.

The base features a robust central turned and carved column, adorned with large acanthus leaves, fluting, and annular moldings, supported by four expansive radiating feet. These are enriched by volutes, longitudinal fluting, geometric inlays, and acanthus leaves at the ends, forming an architectural yet sculptural composition.

The design directly revisits the Italian Renaissance repertoire, reinterpreted in line with the historicist taste of the late 19th century. The combination of a strong quadripartite base, a elaborately carved central column, and a marble top with an exceptionally cut outline gives the piece a distinctive identity and a decorative presence superior to that of more common examples from the same period.

The construction, extensive hand-carving, and the visible aging on the lower surfaces are consistent with an 19th-century production. It shows wear, small marks, tonal differences, and patina compatible with age, with a tiny imperceptible warp on the top, all maintaining good structural integrity.
