Samuel Prout (1783-1852), Attributed to - Veduta Urbana

Although it is not possible to identify the author with certainty and in the absence of a visible signature, given the compositional and chromatic analogies with the famous watercolors by masters of picturesque architecture and of nineteenth-century North European vedutists, it is considered possible to attribute it to the English artist Samuel Prout.
Samuel Prout (1783–1852) was one of the most renowned masters of the English School of Watercolor and is internationally famous for his paintings of historic architectures and European urban views.
The work depicts a market scene in a medieval city street.
Dimensions: 33 x 23 cm unframed, 51 x 41 cm with frame.
It is probably an antique lithograph hand-coloured with watercolor.
The work, with a golden mat and original gilt frame, has been mounted by W.M. Dibben, 104 Poole Road, Westbourne Bournemouth.
The original label on the back, “WM Dibben, 104 Poole Road, Westbourne, Bournemouth – Practical Frame Maker, Gilder & Picture Dealer”, identifies the piece as a Victorian or Edwardian antique item.
