Description from the seller
GENERAL:
For sale is a rare AMC Javelin in the upscale SST trim from the coveted 1970 model year. This hardtop coupe impresses with its distinctive styling and classic American V8 character. In recent years the vehicle has undergone extensive technical overhauls and visual upgrades. It is a documented SST model that combines driving enjoyment with solid value retention.
BODY & PAINT:
The body presents in a very appealing condition. The vehicle was professionally repainted in a rich red about 5 years ago and shows a deep, beautiful gloss. The lines of the 1970 model are particularly well highlighted by the color choice. Chrome parts and trim are, for its age, well maintained.
TECHNICAL:
Recent substantial investments have been made technically. In September 2024, extensive work was carried out by a classic-car specialist (Classic Garage Lischer) (invoice available):
- Chassis & exhaust: Replacement of the rear leaf springs and the entire exhaust system.
- Electrical & safety: Replacement of the ignition module and the safety switch.
- Maintenance: Lubrication and service of the steering (idler arm).
The car is also equipped with an registered LPG system, enabling economical driving. The engine (304 cu in V8) and automatic transmission operate reliably. The Luxembourg technical inspection (SNCT) was passed on 27.09.2024 without issues (valid until 09/2026).
INTERIOR:
The interior features the well-kept, SST-specific interior trim. The distinctive elements of the "Super Sport Typhoon" package are preserved and emphasize the sporty luxury of the early 70s. The cabin feels inviting and authentic.
DOCUMENTATION:
The Javelin’s history is well documented:
- Origin: Documented path via the Netherlands to Luxembourg.
- Certificates: An assessment as a historic cultural asset (12/2023) is available.
- Valuation: An older appraisal already valued the car at €30,000; due to the repaint and the technical investments made in 2024, the vehicle has further increased in value and reliability.
Proof: The VIN plate confirms the identity as a genuine SST model with the original 5.0L V8.
PICKUP:
The vehicle is available in Luxembourg for viewing and pickup. Thanks to the fresh technical inspection and the current service, the car is ready to drive away immediately.
FURTHER INFORMATION:
With a mileage of about 16,572 miles (as per the speedometer) and the original registration from 30.06.1970, you are acquiring a well-developed Pony Car. For the auction, detailed photos of the VIN plate, the current workshop invoice, and the fault-free inspection report are provided to transparently document the excellent condition."

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
