Description from the seller

Shell Strombus gigas (Lobatus gigas, lambi, or queen conch)

A species of marine mollusk found in the equatorial and tropical zones of the western Atlantic, notably in the Caribbean and Florida.

Its shell and the pearls it can produce are used for decoration and making objects such as jewelry, especially the very rare pink pearl (about one pink pearl per thousand lambis).

Pre-Columbian Andean populations already consumed it at the time, and used it as a signaling horn ("pututo").

Shells are frequently found near ceramic sherds by archaeologists, including in Martinique.

Lobatus gigas is a prized delicacy in the Antilles, as valued and luxurious as lobster. In the French Antilles, its culinary name is "lambi". (naturalia: animalia.)

Height: 15 cm
Width: 23 cm
Weight: 750 grams

In superb condition
