Description from the seller

CORNAS THE GEYNALE ROBERT MICHEL 1989

Parcel Reacquired since 2007 by his nephew, winemaker Vincent Paris

Wine profile: A ripe wine with aromas of plums, raspberries, tapenade and spices.

Structure: Melted but rustic tannins, with a beautiful energy.

THE VINTAGE

The Genyale takes its name from the plot from which the syrah that makes up this vintage comes. It is a steep hilltop located on one of the appellation's best terroirs: the Reynard district. This hillside benefits from a south/southeast exposure, granite and gneiss soils, and the age of its centenary vineyards. In keeping with the winemaker's convictions, the winemaking is traditional. This wine opens with fullness and elegance, with notes of black fruits, balsamic and licorice. The palate is disarmingly supple. Its rich flavors coat the tannins, offering a soft and silky texture. It is a wine for aging that has not yet shown its full potential. Better to keep for a few years.

THE DOMAINE ROBERT MICHEL

Located in Cornas, a few meters from Alain Voge's estate, Robert Michel has been operating the family estate for many decades. Representing the fourth generation of winemakers, he began his career in the mid-1970s, and, after many years of selling his wines to merchants, he released his first vintage in 2006. Robert Michel is renowned for elevating Cornas's terroirs and for staunchly defending the traditions of winemaking, namely, manual harvest, fermentations with indigenous yeasts and aging in one or more wines. Today, his estate covers 5 hectares and includes the superb plot La Genyale on the hillside, facing south with granite and gneiss soils. His wines are therefore part of Cornas tradition.
