French school (XIX) - Veduta notturna

It is an oil painting on canvas dating from about the mid-19th century. It depicts a nocturnal seascape by moonlight with a rocky cliff on the right topped by a tower or lighthouse and some small boats with fishermen in the foreground. The style and subject recall traditional Romantic marine paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries, such as those of the French school of Claude-Joseph Vernet, characterized by strong contrasts between the moon's silvery light and the glow of the fires. Framed in an ebonized wooden frame and with overall dimensions of 64x54 cm, canvas alone 52x42 cm. Due to current regulations it cannot be shipped outside the European Union.
