Richard, Jules Stereo viewer

Rare French hand stereoscope from about 1893, crafted in dark polished wood with brass details. On the brass plaque is inscribed "11 Avril 1893". This compact optical instrument is designed for glass stereoscopic slides and still contains one original stereoscopic card with a Mediterranean coastal scene in sepia.

The model features an elegantly curved wooden body, a retractable brass focus adjustment system and large eyepieces for a clear and comfortable 3D image. On top there is a hinged wooden lid that covers the viewing opening and the matte-glass screen against stray light. Focusing operates via a ribbed knob on the side, and the original wooden carriage moves smoothly in and out.

The condition is very good for an item of this age: nice patina, normal signs of use, no structural damage and fully functional. An attractive collector's item and a beautiful decorative piece for enthusiasts of antique optical instruments and 19th-century photography.
