Denon PMA-530, a 1979 Nippon Columbia solid-state integrated amplifier, in very good condition and tested working, weighing 11 kg and including the power cord; serial number 1115443.

Description:
A full-size analogue integrated amplifier built by Nippon Columbia in 1979, at the height of Japan's audio boom. The front panel reads Precision audio component / pre-main amplifier — and the feature set behind it is more serious than the model number suggests.
Direct Couple — the switch that matters
The PMA-530 gives you a hard bypass of the entire tone control section. Flick DIRECT COUPLE from tone to direct and the green DIRECT lamp lights: bass, treble and the circuitry behind them are lifted out of the signal path completely, leaving the shortest route from input to output the amplifier is capable of.
This is not a marketing switch. Tone controls require active stages and coupling capacitors that sit permanently in the audio path, and removing them is the single most effective thing a designer can do for transparency. Most amplifiers at this level in 1979 offered a tone defeat that merely flattened the response while leaving the circuit connected. This one takes the circuit out.
Leave it in tone when you need it — the bass and treble controls are there, calibrated ±5 — and switch to direct for critical listening.
MM and MC phono, both built in
The phono stage handles moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, switchable from the front panel. This is the feature that separates the PMA-530 from most of its contemporaries. In 1979, MC cartridges were the serious listener's choice and most amplifiers required an external step-up transformer or head amp to use one — an extra box, an extra pair of interconnects, an extra noise path. Denon built the MC stage in.
Denon had earned the right to. The company's professional recording division supplied the machines Nippon Columbia and NHK cut records on, and in 1972 built the world's first commercially deployed PCM digital recorder — years before the compact disc existed. Denon also made cartridges: the DL-103, developed with NHK for broadcast use, is still in production today and remains one of the most respected MC cartridges ever made. This amplifier's MC input was designed by the same company, for cartridges like that one.
A dedicated GND terminal on the rear handles turntable earthing.
Volume calibrated in decibels
The volume control is not marked 1 to 10. It is scaled in dB attenuation, from −70 through −4 and up. That is a studio convention rather than a consumer one, and it means you can return to an exact listening level rather than approximating it by knob position.
