Charles Desavary was a pupil of Constant Dutilleux, whom he married into as his son-in-law; he was also a pupil of Thomas Couture and Camille Corot, with whom he became friends, as well as Eugène Delacroix. He regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1868 to 1885.
Museums: a substantial collection of his paintings and photographs is preserved at the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Arras. Also Paris, the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée Eugène Delacroix.
