Description from the seller
I am offering for sale a spectacular JEFE Luna-Car, item No. 810, a vintage large space toy crafted in Spain and inspired by the world of space exploration.
The Luna-Car is distinguished by its imposing futuristic bodywork, its large transparent panoramic cabin, its numerous mechanical and electrical components, and its various play functions.
The original manual presents the Luna-Car as a:
“Articulated vehicle, launcher of a flying propeller and space exploration capsule.”
This copy is particularly interesting due to the combination of the vehicle, numerous accessories, its wired control, its red flying propeller, its instruction sheet, and its large illustrated original box.
Vehicle description
The Luna-Car features a large gray body with the inscriptions “LUNA-CAR” and “JEFE.”
The vehicle is equipped with, among other things, a large transparent panoramic cabin, several wheels, transparent domes with figures, an antenna/radar, various colored elements, lighting devices, and various equipment inspired by space exploration.
It is also accompanied by its spectacular red flying propeller system, an iconic accessory of the Luna-Car and depicted on the illustration on the original box.
A wired control allows the different functions of the toy to be actuated.
Items included in the lot
The lot includes:
- the JEFE Luna-Car vehicle, item No. 810;
- the large transparent panoramic cabin;
- the figures and elements under the transparent domes;
- the exploratory capsule and the various elements visible in the photographs;
- the antenna/radar;
- the red flying propeller;
- the wired control;
- the original French operating instruction;
- the large illustrated original box.
The exact set delivered corresponds to the elements visible in the photographs. Given the toy’s age, the photographs also allow precise verification of the accessories and elements present.
Overall condition of the Luna-Car
The vehicle is in good overall condition for its age and retains a particularly attractive presentation.
The bodywork preserves its colors, the LUNA-CAR and JEFE inscriptions, and a large number of its original elements, accessories, and equipment.
The transparent parts, the bodywork, and the various components show signs typical of age and use: light scratches, wear, dust, marks, and superficial wear.
These traces are consistent with the toy’s age as a collectible.
The vehicle has not been restored.
No dismantling of the mechanism or any repair attempts have been made to preserve its state and authenticity as much as possible.
Operational test
A functioning test was performed with batteries.
During this test, the mechanism activated when powered on.
The green lamp lit up.
The red flying propeller started to spin briefly.
However, the vehicle did not move during the test.
These observations indicate that some electrical and mechanical functions still respond, but the overall operation of the Luna-Car is currently partial.
The vehicle may require cleaning of the mechanism, a revision, or a restoration to potentially recover all or part of its original functions.
No guarantee can be given regarding the possibility of full restoration to working condition.
The toy is therefore sold as an antique collection item with partial functionality.
The original illustrated box
The presence of the large original JEFE Luna-Car box is an important element of this set.
This spectacular box retains its large retro-futuristic illustrations depicting the Luna-Car in exploration across a lunar landscape, accompanied by astronauts and spacecraft.
The illustrations, colors, and main inscriptions, notably “LUNA-CAR,” “JEFE,” and “Article No. 810,” remain visible and allow immediate identification of the model.
The box shows heavy wear due to age, use, and storage.
It features tears, folds, scuffs, crushing, missing cardboard, and old repairs with tape.
Despite its very worn condition, its presence is still of interest to a collector.
This is the original box that accompanied the toy, preserved for several decades.
It serves as both a display piece, an identification aid, and documentation for the Luna-Car.
The box has been kept as is and has not been restored to preserve its original character.
Its exact condition is clearly visible in the many photographs.
Original operating manual
The lot is accompanied by its original French operating manual, “Char Lunaire - Article No. 810.”
The manual describes the Luna-Car’s various functions, including vehicle movement, steering, the flying propeller launch system, and the space exploration capsule.
It bears signs of aging, including folds, usage marks, and tears on some edges.
It remains legible and constitutes an interesting documentary supplement to this set.
Interest for collectors
This Luna-Car is a remarkable testament to the golden age of space and retro-futurist toys, strongly influenced by space conquest and lunar exploration.
The appeal of this specimen lies in the combination of the large vehicle, its many visible elements, the red flying propeller, the wired control, the original manual, and the large illustrated original box.
The presence of some signs of electrical reaction during the test is also interesting information for a collector wishing to preserve the toy as-is or to undertake a later mechanism revision.
A substantial and highly decorative collectible intended for enthusiasts of vintage toys, space toys, lunar vehicles, vintage science fiction, Spanish toys, and objects related to space exploration.
Important information for the buyer
The toy is sold as an antique collectible with partial functionality.
The test performed showed the green lamp lighting up and a brief rotation of the red propeller. The vehicle did not move.
No dismantling or repairs of the mechanism have been performed.
Given the toy’s age, no guarantee of current or future operation can be provided.
The photographs are an integral part of the description. They allow a precise assessment of the condition of the vehicle, the accessories, the manual, and the original box.
