Meiping-shaped vase with a plum blossom decoration

31 cm height x 19 cm diameter
This vase adopts the classic silhouette of a meiping (plum blossom vase), characterized by a short neck with a narrow lip, a high, generously rounded shoulder, and a body that tapers toward a slightly flared base. The stoneware body is entirely coated with a dark brown to black glaze (type wujin), upon which stands a decoration of plum blossom branches in bloom. This floral motif is executed with an ochre-yellow glaze with a crystallized and granular effect, imitating the splashes of slip characteristic of northern China kilns. The shoulder of the vase bears a distinctive mark divided into two rectangular cartouches on a white glazed background.
Condition: There is a trace of calcareous sediment (mineral runoff) slightly visible on the surface of the body. This deposit, superficial yet ingrained, does not alter the structure of the black glaze. Minor wear from regular use at the base (foot unglazed). The overall state of conservation remains very satisfactory, with a bright freshness to the glazes.
