Description from the seller
Adjustable Table
Högsta | Ehlén Johansson | Post-Moderne
The IKEA “Högsta” side table is a coveted vintage piece of furniture from the early 1990s, designed by the renowned Swedish designer Ehlén Johansson.
The design is heavily influenced by the postmodern Memphis design movement. As it is a rare collector’s item, the table now commands prices of up to 650 USD on vintage platforms like The Sullivan Archive.
The table is made entirely of metal. A heavy foot in cast iron guarantees a secure stance.
The circular height-adjustable tabletop is carried by a chrome-plated, centrally retractable shaft and terminates in a wide, fluted base. The shape of the base is echoed in the lock wheel for the height adjustment and gives the postmodern design a playful note.
Designer Ehlén Johansson is among the most influential designers in IKEA’s history. In the 1990s she designed numerous icons with high recognizability, including the transparent plastic side table “Hatten.” Her designs from that era blend Nordic functionality with the playful, geometric forms of postmodernism.
Height: 46 - 74 cm
Ø: 40 cm
Ø base: 23 cm
Weight: 7 kg
