These two splendid chairs named 'Universale' are 50 years old and are intact and in good condition also because they were the back stock of a hotel that never used them. The normal signs of wear, almost imperceptible, are due to time and do not affect the beauty and the peculiarity of these chairs, but on the contrary increase their charm, as you can see from the images which are an integral part of the description.

They are the first industrial chair in the world, injection-molded using a single mold. The leg cylinder is cut in half to make it possible to position the chairs next to each other; the notches on the sides solve the stacking problem as it is possible to insert the rear legs of two other seats into them. Finally, the central hole provides a convenient grip to move the chair, allow air circulation, and drain water in case of outdoor use.

Colombo's design career was tragically interrupted in 1971 by a heart attack that killed him at the age of 41. Nevertheless, he was very prolific during his (almost) ten years as a designer. Notable projects include some of the most iconic designs of the '60s, such as the stacking Universale chair (1965-1967) offered here, which was made entirely of polypropylene.
